Since 1927, the Meinhardt family has owned and operated Brandywine Companies. The original site, located on Route 381 one mile south of routes 301 and 381, was a service station and towing operation. A body shop was added as the amount of traffic and accidents increased. The towing business led the family into the sale of used parts caused by the shortage of auto parts during World War II. Established in 1960, Brandywine Trucks & Equipment has become one of the largest trucks & equipment dealers on the east coast.
